Last Week
The McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars powered past the BEE Seahawks 35-18 on Friday night in Salem, using a punishing ground attack and another big night from senior standout Owen Schmidt. The Cougars trailed early but quickly found their rhythm, grinding out 349 yards of total offense — 315 of those on the ground — to secure their fourth win of the season.
After BEE’s Holden Wollmann connected with Austin Jager for an 11-yard score and later found Jaxx Kurtenbach on a 33-yard strike, the Seahawks led 12-8 in the first quarter. But the Cougars answered with three straight touchdowns — a 25-yard pass to Schmidt, then a pair of short runs from the senior tailback — to seize control by halftime, 22-18. MCM’s defense tightened from there, holding BEE scoreless over the final two quarters while Schmidt punched in two more rushing touchdowns to seal the win.
Schmidt rushed 29 times for 155 yards and four touchdowns for MCM, while also catching a 25-yard scoring pass from quarterback Andrew Sabers. Sabers was efficient through the air, completing two of four passes for 34 yards and a touchdown, and adding 55 more yards on the ground. Connor Heiberger chipped in 75 rushing yards on 11 carries.
For the Seahawks, Wollmann led the way with 57 rushing yards and a touchdown while passing for 95 yards and two scores. Kurtenbach finished with 138 all-purpose yards, including 72 on kick returns. Defensively, Coltyn Raymond recorded 17 tackles and Brady Jager added 16 in a strong effort despite the loss.
With the victory, McCook Central/Montrose improved to 4-3, while the Seahawks fell to 2-4 on the season.
This Season
The Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks have battled through a challenging opening stretch to the 2025 season, sitting at 2-4 overall after six games. Despite the losing record, the Seahawks have shown balance and resilience, outscoring opponents 154-132 on the year and staying competitive in nearly every matchup.
BEE opened the season with a tight 13-12 road loss at Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central, then responded with a strong 32-6 home win over Lead-Deadwood. Heartbreak followed in Week 3 with a 21-20 loss to Beresford, before the Seahawks fell in a high-scoring battle at Wagner, 49-34. A convincing 38-8 win at Baltic gave them momentum, but they ran into a physical McCook Central/Montrose team last Friday, falling 35-18 in Salem.
Offensively, the Seahawks are averaging 25.7 points and 247 total yards per game, with the ground game setting the tone. Quarterback Holden Wollmann has been the team’s engine, leading both the rushing and passing attacks. Wollmann has piled up 562 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 96 carries (5.9 avg), while also throwing for 589 yards and 7 scores without an interception — accounting for 18 total touchdowns.
Versatile sophomore Jaxx Kurtenbach has been a highlight on both sides of the ball. He ranks second on the team in rushing (167 yards, 2 TDs), leads all receivers with 19 catches for 265 yards and 4 touchdowns, and adds special teams spark with a 90-yard kickoff return score. Kurtenbach’s 730 all-purpose yards top the roster, averaging more than 120 yards per game.
Creighton Klumb has chipped in as a reliable receiver and kicker, with 8 receptions for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns, plus 8-of-11 PATs. Carter Glanzer has contributed balance on both sides with 85 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, and 38 total tackles on defense. KJ Ripley, Brady Jager, and Jackson Weber have all been steady contributors in the passing game and secondary.
Defensively, BEE has been opportunistic — forcing 8 interceptions and 3 fumbles while allowing 22 points per contest. Coltyn Raymond anchors the defense with a team-high 64 tackles, while Klumb and Ethan Longe have combined for 6 sacks. Brady Jager has emerged as a playmaker in the secondary with 5 interceptions, and Wollmann has added two more picks to go with six pass breakups.
Special teams have been solid, with Kurtenbach averaging 30.9 yards per kick return, and Ripley averaging 15.5 yards per punt return. The Seahawks also hold a +5 turnover margin on the year, one of their biggest strengths heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

Sioux Falls Christian
Last Week
Sioux Falls Christian left no doubt Friday night, rolling past Vermillion 48–7 in a dominant all-around performance. The Chargers came out firing, scoring three times in the opening quarter to build a quick 21–0 lead and never looked back. Their ground game set the tone early with short-yardage touchdowns, and quarterback play complemented the attack with efficient passing, including a 16-yard strike that capped the early surge.
In the second quarter, Sioux Falls Christian poured it on with three more touchdowns before halftime — including a 73-yard punt return. By the time the teams headed to the locker room, the Chargers had a commanding 41–0 advantage. A late fourth-quarter touchdown pass stretched the lead to 48–0 before Vermillion finally found the end zone on a short run to avoid the shutout.
SFC limited Vermillion to 172 total yards and only eight first downs, while forcing a fumble. Sioux Falls Christian’s offense stayed sharp and mistake-free, finishing with 308 total yards — 176 on the ground and 132 through the air — and converting better than half of their third-down chances.
This Season
Sioux Falls Christian has stormed through the 2025 season with an unblemished 6-0 record, asserting themselves as the dominant force in Class 11A. The Chargers opened the season with a 24-0 road shutout of West Central, followed by a 48-21 home victory over Rapid City Christian. They continued their defensive mastery with a 17-0 blanking of Lennox and a 50-0 rout of Canton on the road. SFC’s offense remained relentless, posting a 42-6 win at Madison and a 48-7 triumph over Vermillion.
The team’s balance is clear in the stats: the offense is averaging 166 rushing yards and 155 passing yards per game while converting 45 percent of third downs, all while committing only a single turnover. The defense has been suffocating, allowing just 43 rushing yards and 97 passing yards per game. Opponents are converting only 25 percent of their third downs and have turned the ball over 11 times. Sioux Falls Christian leads Class 11A in both scoring, with 38.2 points per game, and stinginess, allowing just 5.7 points per game. With both offense and defense firing on all cylinders, SFC looks poised to continue its march toward a deep playoff run.
