Last Week

Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan fell to Parkston 56-12 on Friday, Sept. 4, in Parkston. The Seahawks stayed within four points early in the second quarter before the Trojans scored 32 unanswered points to take a 48-12 halftime lead.

Parkston opened the scoring on Brycen Bruening’s 72-yard touchdown pass to Quayden Culbert. BEE answered with Carter Glanzer’s 5-yard touchdown run before Bruening scored on a 33-yard run to give the Trojans a 16-6 lead after one quarter.

Glanzer provided the Seahawks’ biggest play early in the second quarter, returning a punt 66 yards for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 16-12. Parkston responded with Sean Deckert’s 5-yard touchdown run, a 22-yard interception return by Maxan Bax, and two more Bruening scores—a 37-yard run and a 49-yard interception return. Sergio Brakie added a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Parkston finished with 338 yards of offense, including 247 rushing, while BEE totaled 119 yards. The Trojans held a 16-6 advantage in first downs and turned both Seahawks interceptions into touchdowns.

Glanzer led BEE with 47 rushing yards and finished with 143 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. KJ Ripley added 17 rushing yards and 39 kickoff-return yards, while Creighton Klumb caught a 14-yard pass. Ripley also averaged 38 yards on five punts, placing two inside the 20.

Defensively, Coltyn Raymond led the Seahawks with eight tackles, followed by Ethan Longe with five and Klumb with four. Tait Roth intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards, while Klumb and Thiago Juarez each recorded a tackle for loss.

This Season

Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan enters the fourth week of the season at 0-3 following losses to Viborg-Hurley, Garretson and Parkston. The Seahawks have totaled 659 yards of offense, averaging 219.7 yards per game, with 412 yards rushing and 247 passing. BEE has recorded 40 first downs and converted 39.3 percent of its third-down opportunities, but nine turnovers have hampered its scoring chances. Opponents have averaged 350.7 yards per game and outscored the Seahawks 114-32, making ball security and limiting big plays key areas for improvement.

Carter Glanzer leads BEE with 197 rushing yards on 40 carries and three total touchdowns, including his punt-return score against Parkston. He also leads the team with 330 all-purpose yards. Brady Jager has completed 22 of 43 passes for 247 yards while adding 71 rushing yards and a touchdown. KJ Ripley leads the receiving corps with eight catches for 106 yards, followed by Creighton Klumb with seven receptions for 90 yards. Ripley has also contributed 129 kickoff-return yards and averaged 37.7 yards on seven punts, while Carson Bartscher has rushed for 52 yards and a score.

Coltyn Raymond continues to pace the defense with 37 tackles through three games. Glanzer follows with 21 tackles, Jackson Weber has 20, and Klumb has 17. Raymond, Weber and Klumb share the team lead with 1½ tackles for loss apiece, while Joe Kayser leads with one sack. The Seahawks have recorded seven tackles for loss and two sacks overall, with Klumb recovering a fumble and Tait Roth providing the team’s interception. Turning more defensive stops into scoring opportunities will be an important step as BEE seeks its first victory.

Last Week

Sioux Falls Lutheran fell to Platte-Geddes 50-14 on Sept. 4 despite a productive second quarter from quarterback Rowen Becker. Trailing 14-0, Lutheran answered with Becker’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Jakob Stubkjaer and Becker’s two-point conversion run. Following another Black Panther score, Becker connected with Owen Gilster for a 13-yard touchdown to pull Lutheran within 22-14. Platte-Geddes scored again before halftime to take a 30-14 lead, then held Lutheran scoreless over the final two quarters.

Becker threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns while adding 65 rushing yards, including a 54-yard run. Gilster led the receivers with four catches for 65 yards and a touchdown, while Brayden Wille contributed four receptions for 54 yards. Stubkjaer added two catches for 28 yards and a score, and Cooper Ovenden rushed for 34 yards on seven carries. Lutheran moved the ball effectively during the second quarter but missed an opportunity before halftime when its drive ended on downs at the Platte-Geddes 6-yard line.

Landon Keiser powered the Black Panthers with five rushing touchdowns, scoring from 49, 22, 28, 22 and 19 yards out. Platte-Geddes finished with at least 380 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Lutheran generated approximately 309 yards of offense, but four possessions ended on downs, including a third-quarter drive that began with Becker’s 54-yard run.

This Season

Sioux Falls Lutheran enters this week’s matchup with Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan at 1-2, following losses to Centerville and Platte-Geddes and a 22-20 victory over Baltic. Lutheran showed its resilience against Baltic, overcoming a 14-0 deficit with 22 unanswered points before holding on for the win. Through three games, Lutheran has recorded 629 yards of offense, including 340 passing and 289 rushing, while scoring 50 points. Sustaining drives and limiting explosive plays remain priorities after allowing 58 points to Centerville and 50 to Platte-Geddes.

Junior quarterback Rowen Becker leads the offense with 340 passing yards and three touchdowns, completing 27 of 52 attempts. He also leads Lutheran with 147 rushing yards and a touchdown, giving him 487 yards of total offense. Senior Cooper Ovenden has contributed 117 rushing yards and three touchdowns, including both second-half scores in the Baltic victory. Owen Gilster leads the receivers with 110 yards on five catches, while Abbott Moeller has a team-high nine receptions for 81 yards. Brayden Wille has added eight catches for 93 yards, and Jakob Stubkjaer has three receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown.

Lutheran’s defense delivered its strongest performance against Baltic, holding the Bulldogs scoreless during the second and third quarters as the offense rallied. Simeon Ovenden recorded eight tackles in each of the first two games, while Moeller totaled 13 over that span and intercepted a pass against Baltic. Gilster contributed nine tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack and a blocked kick through the opening two contests. Lutheran has shown it can respond to an early deficit and produce big plays, but greater consistency on both sides of the ball will be important as it looks to return to .500.

This Day in Seahawk History

2015 - Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan rolled to a 48-0 victory over Flandreau on Sept. 11, 2015, rushing for 401 yards while holding the Fliers to 132 total yards. Cole Gassman led the Seahawks with 220 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries, including a 60-yard scoring run. Colton Plagmann added 81 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Ethan Riggs and Dustin Weber also scored on the ground. Jacob Eddy paced the defense with 10 tackles, two tackles for loss and a fumble return for a touchdown as BEE built a 21-0 halftime lead.

2020 - Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan improved to 4-0 with a 49-0 victory over Redfield on Sept. 11, 2020, in Bridgewater. Koby Kayser scored five touchdowns—three rushing, one receiving and one on a 39-yard punt return—and totaled 228 all-purpose yards as BEE built a 41-0 halftime lead. Clay Hohn added 67 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Sam Hofer also scored on the ground. The Seahawks outgained Redfield 315-117 and intercepted five passes, including two by Rylee Schultz, to secure the shutout.

First meeting: Friday marks the first-ever football matchup between BEE and Sioux Falls Lutheran. The Seahawks enter at 0-3, while the Eagles are 1-2.

A young program: Sioux Falls Lutheran is playing its third varsity season. After finishing 0-8 in its debut in 2024, the Eagles improved to 6-4 and reached the playoffs in 2025.

The Seahawk Junior Varsity team fell to 1-1 on the season with a 24-16 loss to Baltic this week. The JV squad heads to Parkston on Monday.
