Last Week

Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan fell to Garretson 36-12 on Friday, Aug. 28, in Bridgewater. The Blue Dragons scored 16 points during a busy second quarter and carried a 23-6 advantage into halftime.

Garretson opened the scoring on Chase Arend’s 6-yard touchdown run. Arend later connected with Jackson Arend for a 70-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 14-0. BEE answered when Brady Jager scored on a 3-yard run, but Cade Risty’s 17-yard touchdown and Carter Siemonsma’s 39-yard field goal gave Garretson a 17-point halftime lead.

Chase Arend added a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and found Jackson Arend for another score in the fourth. Carson Bartscher completed the scoring for BEE with a 2-yard touchdown run.

Garretson finished with 452 yards of offense, including 228 rushing and 224 passing. The Seahawks recorded 267 total yards and nearly matched the Blue Dragons in first downs, 19-17, but three interceptions proved costly.

Jager completed 12 of 21 passes for 140 yards and led BEE with 47 rushing yards. KJ Ripley caught five passes for 82 yards and totaled 170 all-purpose yards, while Bartscher rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown. Parker Sanderson contributed 88 yards on four kickoff returns.

Defensively, Coltyn Raymond paced the Seahawks with 15 tackles. Jackson Weber finished with 12 tackles, 1½ tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a pass breakup, while Carter Glanzer added nine tackles. Creighton Klumb recorded six tackles and recovered a fumble.

This Season

Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan is 0-2 following losses to Viborg-Hurley and Garretson, but the Seahawks have shown an ability to move the football. BEE has totaled 540 yards and 34 first downs through two games, nearly matching its opponents’ 35 first downs. Turnovers have been the biggest issue, with the Seahawks committing six while forcing just one.

Carter Glanzer leads a balanced rushing attack with 150 yards and a touchdown. Brady Jager has passed for 237 yards while adding 69 yards and a score on the ground. KJ Ripley has provided a consistent big-play threat, leading BEE with seven receptions, 110 receiving yards and 231 all-purpose yards. Creighton Klumb has contributed six catches for 76 yards.

The Seahawks have also received steady production from their defensive leaders. Coltyn Raymond has recorded a team-high 29 tackles, followed by Glanzer with 18 and Jackson Weber with 17. Weber has also registered 1½ tackles for loss and a forced fumble. If BEE can protect the football and turn more of its sustained drives into points, the Seahawks have shown enough offensive balance and defensive production to take a step forward.

Last Week

Parkston controlled the line of scrimmage and dominated the yardage totals in a 30-6 victory over Platte-Geddes. The Trojans finished with approximately 257 yards of offense while holding the Black Panthers to 100. Parkston gained 171 yards on the ground, while Platte-Geddes was limited to 58.

Mason Jervik led Parkston’s rushing attack and scored twice, helping the Trojans turn an 8-6 game into a comfortable victory. Brycen Bruening provided balance through the air, throwing fourth-quarter touchdown passes to Maxan Bax and Quayden Culbert. Parkston finished with 86 net passing yards after accounting for a sack.

The Trojan defense was equally impressive, allowing only 42 passing yards and forcing Platte-Geddes into several three-and-outs and turnovers on downs. Reco Muilenburg supplied the game’s pivotal takeaway with a late third-quarter interception that set up Jervik’s second touchdown.

This Season

Parkston enters Friday’s home opener against Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan with a 2-0 record after defeating Hill City 54-24 and Platte-Geddes 30-6. The Trojans have outscored their opponents 84-30 while averaging 42 points and approximately 316 yards of offense per game.

Parkston’s strength has been its rushing attack, which has produced 474 yards and seven touchdowns through two games. The Trojans have added four passing touchdowns while completing 13 of 18 attempts. Altogether, Parkston has gained approximately 631 yards, including 374 against Hill City and 257 against Platte-Geddes.

Defensively, the Trojans have allowed approximately 197 yards and 15 points per game. Parkston’s ability to run the football, avoid turnovers and create favorable field position has helped it pull away from both opponents during an impressive start to the season.

This Day in Seahawk History

2009 - Emery/Ethan improved to 2-0 with a 34-6 road victory over Gregory on Sept. 4, 2009. EE led 22-0 at halftime and carried a shutout into the fourth quarter behind a rushing attack that produced 287 yards and five touchdowns. Jordon Connor led the way with 147 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Tim Olinger added 90 yards and a score, while Justin Grosdidier and Ryan Hanks also reached the end zone. Defensively, Olinger recorded a team-high 16 tackles, and Hanks intercepted a pass as EE held Gregory to 101 rushing yards.

2020 - Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan improved to 3-0 with a 21-12 road victory over Sioux Valley on Sept. 4, 2020. The Seahawks led 14-12 at halftime before their defense shut out the Cossacks over the final two quarters.

Kaden Klumb accounted for all three BEE touchdowns, rushing for one and throwing two scoring passes to Jay Storm. Koby Kayser led the ground game with 103 yards, while Bodie Burnham accumulated 109 all-purpose yards. Defensively, Rylee Schultz recorded 10 tackles, Brooks Jansen had nine tackles and a sack, and Eric Gustafson added eight tackles and an interception.
