Game Bits
-
BEE and Britton-Hecla will meet for the first time, with a trip to the Class 9AA quarterfinals on the line. Both enter off wins: the Seahawks rallied past Hanson 22–16, while the Braves beat Sisseton 50–0 for their sixth consecutive victory.
-
These programs shared the championship stage in 2019, although in different classes. BEE defeated Winner 21–14 for the Class 11B title, while Britton-Hecla finished runner-up in Class 9A after a 46–34 loss to Canistota/Freeman. Those championship games were played in Brookings at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
-
Containing Britton-Hecla’s ground game will be a priority for BEE. Bennett Suther is just six yards shy of 1,000 rushing yards and has scored 16 rushing touchdowns, while quarterback Jace Rein has added 490 yards and 12 scores on the ground. Coltyn Raymond leads the Seahawks’ defense with 90 tackles.
-
Special teams could give either side a spark. Suther has returned two kickoffs for touchdowns this season, while Carter Glanzer has scored twice on punt returns for BEE. His 60-yard return against Hanson helped turn an eight-point halftime deficit into a season-ending victory—exactly the kind of momentum the Seahawks hope to carry into the playoffs.
-
Britton-Hecla gets another opportunity at home in the opening round after falling 14–7 to Kimball/White Lake in last year’s Class 9AA playoffs. BEE’s most recent playoff appearance came in 2024, when the Seahawks lost 27–13 at Clark/Willow Lake in the first round of the Class 11B playoffs. The Seahawks missed the postseason last year for the first time since 2006, when the program competed as Emery/Ethan.

The forecast at kickoff tonight in Britton calls for mostly sunny skies with a temperature of 72 degrees with southeast winds at 10-15 mph.
